| 12/15/2008 | Torrington 8A loses opening round tournament game to Scottsbluff 31 - 24. The Blazers concluded their season by dropping a game that they had high hopes of winning. After leading at half time 16 - 13, the Blazers saw Scottsbluff score 12 and 9 points in the final two quarters to overcome the halftime deficit and move on into the semifinals in the West Nebraska Junior High Tournament. Shai Schaefer led the the Blazer attack with 9 points. Paige Beckstor scored six points, Mikayla McNamee six, Taylor Frazier 2, and Sydney Harms 1 point. Congratulations go to the Blazers, certainly, for the season they put together in which they greatly increased the number of wins they accumulated compared to their seventh grade season. We'll look forward to seeing each of these girls play in high school. |  | | 12/11/2008 | Wheatland Defeats Torrington 8A 26 - 13. In a game where the Torrington Blazers seemed "jinxed" with a lid on the basket, the Wheatland Bulldogs defeated Torrington 26 - 13. High scorer for Torrington was Shai Schaefer with 7 points. Mikayla McNamee and Sydney Harms each tallied three points. |  | | 12/4/2008 | TMS 8A upsets Gering 8A 31- 25. The 8A Blazers exacted a measure of revenge for a drubbing received earlier from the Lady Bulldogs. Coach E said that the turning point in the game was the third quarter, where TMS outscored Gering 13 - 5. Following that, the Blazers had to hold on for the win as several girls struggled with foul trouble, including Shai Schaefer who fouled out with a few seconds left to go. Sydney Harms also was saddled with four fouls a good share of the fourth quarter. The Blazers were led in scoring by Shai Schaefer, show played sick, at one point having to sit out of the game. Still, she garnered 16 points. Sydney Harms had 8 points, including two critical 3 point field goals. Mikayla McNamee had 4 points, Kaitlin Gerrard had two big points in a reserve role, and Paige Beckstrom rounded out the scoring with one point. Sydney Harms led the team in rebounding with 9; Mikayla McNamee had 8 boards, and Shai Schaefer and Paige Beckstrom each had 7. Beckstrom's 7 rebounds was quite an achievement for a guard playing in a 2 -3 zone. Paige Beckstrom and Mikayla McNamee each had three steals. In a game that was not even as close as the score, the Torrington 8A girls defeated the Glenrock Herders for the second time this year. TMS was led in scoring by Shai Schaefer with 23 points. Sydney Harms had 11 points, Mikayla McNamee had 6 points, and Taylor Frazier 4 points. Sydney Harms and Shai Schaefer each had 9 rebounds, with Taylor Frazier picking up 5. Paige Beckstrom had 7 steals on the evening, with Sydney Harms and Shai Schaefer contributing 4 each. |  | | 12/2/2008 | Torrington 8B defeats Glenrock 47 - 10. The Torrington 8B completely dominated the game against the Lady Herders. Ricky Munoz led the way in the route with 14 points. Lisa Holmes had 13 points, and Karlee Jones and Gina Bad Heart Bull had 6 each. Stephanie Aguallo had 4 points, and Glenda Lindenmuth and Jenny Beltran rounded out the scoring with 2 each. The 8B Lady Blazers dropped the nightcap game to the Scottsbluff Lady Bearcats 34 to 8 on Monday night. Gina Bad Heart Bull led the scoring for the Blazers with six points. Lisa Holmes had two points, and continued her on-the-court thievery with six steals (she is averaging over five steals a game in her last three games). |  | | 11/24/2008 | 8A loses close one to Scottsbluff Lady Blazers - the TMS Lady Blazers dropped their game to Scottsbluff by a score of 31 - 26 on Thursday night. Torrington led off and on throughout the contest until the last four minutes. The Lady Blazers were led by Mikayla McNamee with twelve points, including a 4 of 5 performance from the free throw line. Shai Schaefer totalled 6 points on the night, and Paige Beckstrom and Taylor Frazier each had four points. Taylor Frazier was 2 of 4 from the free throw line. Paige Beckstrom was a real force on defense in this game, garnering five steals. Mikayla McNamee had three steals. Shai Shaefer was the leading rebounder for the Blazers. Mr. Engelker commented that he would like to play Scottsbluff again, as our potential to play even better against them is high. |  | | 11/20/2008 | TMS 8A Loses to Gering 39 - 20. The TMS 8A girls started out with a bang, scoring 12 points in the first quarter, but cooled off after Shai Schaefer drew her third foul, and only scored 8 points for the remainder of the game. While she never had another foul in the game, the team just couldn't get back into rhythm and find their shooting range. For the game, Schaefer led Torrington scorers with 14 points. Taylor Frazier had four points, and Mikayla McNamee two points. In rebounding, Mikayla McNamee and Shai Schaefer each had seven. McNamee, Schaefer, and Sidney Harms each had three steals. |  | | 11/20/2008 | 8th Grade "B" loses to Gering 47 to 7. The Torrington 8th Grade B girls couldn't find their shooting touch, and were really troubled by Gering's defense, ending up dropping a 47 - 9 ball game to the Lady Bulldogs. The Blazers were led by with five points. Lisa Holmes and Jenny Beltran scored two points each. Lisa Holmes had nine steals to lead the Blazers, but we had a hard time converting these into points due to Gering's quickness |  | | 11/17/2008 | Torrington 8A defeats Alliance 21 - 20. Avenging a loss to Alliance as 7th Graders, the TMS 8A girls defeated Alliance in a nailbiter. TMS had rolled out to an eight point lead in a defensive struggle, before Alliance came back to make it close. TMS was led by Shai Schaefer with 16 points. Also scoring were Sydney Harms with 2, Mikayla McNamee with 2, and Paige Beckstrom with 1 point. Leading rebounders were Shai Schaefer with 8, Sydney Harms with 6, Mikayla McNamee with 6, and Paige Beckstrom with 3. Shai Schaefer had 6 steals, and Sydney Harms had 2 steals. The 8th Grade B was led by Lisa Holmes with 8 points, followed by Gina Bad Heart Bull with 6 points. Ricki Munoz had 4 points. Also scoring were Glenda Lindenmuth, Karlee Jones, Stephanie Aguallo with 2 each. Ricki Munoz had five rebounds and four steals; Gina Bad Heart Bull had four rebounds and four steals. Congratulations to the 8th B Team. |  | | 11/11/2008 | 8th Grade B triples their point output at Douglas - The 8th Grade B scored eleven points, more than three times the number scored in their opener. 8th B ended up losing 48 to 11. Ricky Munoz had two points and four steals in the loss. Glenda Lindenmuth had three points to lead TMS scorers, and also played an improved floor game. Gina Bad Heart Bull had four rebounds and three steals. While there is still a long way to go, TMS 8 B is headed in the right direction! |  | | 11/11/2008 | 8th Grade A has a hard landing against Douglas - the 8th Grade A Basketball team ran into a buzz saw at Douglas last Tuesday as they lost 53 - 18. Shai Schaefer had 14 points in the loss, and 7 steals to go with 8 rebounds. Sydney Harms played the whole second half with four fouls, and never fouled out. She also had six rebounds and 3 steals. Mikayla McNamee also had six rebounds and two points. |  | | 11/8/2008 | Torrington B opens season with loss to Wheatland B. The Torrington B team lost 36 to 3 to the Wheatland B team on Saturday morning. Mr. Burrill commented that the team has not had a lot of time to work together yet, and we will improve greatly as we continue to practice. Glenda Lindenmuth and Lisa Holmes scored for the Blazers. |  | | 11/8/2008 | Torrington 8A defeats Glenrock by scoring 35 points in the first basketball game ever played in the new gymnasium. Mr Engelker commented as to how pleased he was with the number of players that contributed to the scoring, including Shai Shaefer with 15 points, Sydney Harms with 12 points, and Mikayla McNamee with 8 points. Congratulations to the Blazers on this first game win. |  | | 11/8/2008 | Torrington 8A loses to Wheatland in second game Saturday. The Torrington Blazer 8A team lost a very close game to the Wheatland Bulldogs on Saturday 19 - 16. Sydney Harms scored 7 points in the loss; Mikayla McNamee had 5 points, and Shai Schaefer had 4 points. Shai Schaefer had 9 rebounds, Mikayla McNamee had 7 rebounds, and Taylor Frazier had 6 rebounds. Mr. Engelker complimented the team on what he felt was a great defensive effort. The team also took very good shots throughout the contest. Wheatland played zone a good deal of the contest, which forced Torrington to shoot from outside in an attempt to break up the zone. If only a couple more shots had fallen, the result would have been reversed. This team had defeated TMS by a considerably greater margin last year. With continued good defensive play, the future looks bright for TMS. |  |
